HLTOUT001 - Implement safe access and egress
The course provides the knowledge and skills required to safely remove patients under routine and non-routine conditions and environments. It includes the safe removal of the patient by overcoming obstacles, using problem solving or use of specialised equipment. It applies to pre-hospital or out of hospital health care workers.
In accordance with Commonwealth and state/territory legislation, Australian Standards, industry codes of practice and established clinical guidelines and protocols, students will learn how to analyse the scene, conduct a risk assessment and identify hazards, develop an access and egress plan using the most appropriate/available equipment to reflect the situation and communicate the plan to the patient, colleagues and other emergency workers at the scene. It also covers amending the original plan as the situation dictates and most importantly recognise that the welfare of the patient, workers and bystanders is paramount.
